Residing just a few yards from the water’s edge and close to the South Downs National Park, this beautiful oak-beamed farmhouse, where parts date back to the 18th century, comprises two self-contained holiday cottages. The house originally resided on the side of a hill, overlooking a meander in the Cuckmere River. Polhills is the perfect rural escape for families and couples alike, providing ample room for guests to relax and unwind, or head out and explore this extensive location.
The reservoir which lies to the south of Arlington Village was built in the 1960s by diverting the natural course of the Cuckmere River, covering 245 acres it is now a nature reserve. Guests can spot over 170 species of birds including herons, kingfishers, woodpeckers, reed warblers and even ospreys form the bird hides. It is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and is ideal for wildlife and walking enthusiasts, as there is a path that circles the reservoir. It is also a haven for keen fishermen, as it provides some of the best trout fishing in the south east. Permits can be purchased at the fishing lodge close by.
Cyclists can enjoy Cycle Route 2, which joins with Route 21, the Cuckoo Trail. Drusillas Zoo, Beachy Head, Charleston Farm House, Glyndbourne, Michelham Priory and the delightful village of Alfriston are all close by and well worth a visit. There is a station within easy reach providing good transport links to London for further sightseeing opportunities.
