Melon Cottage nestles in the lee of the Mendip Hills in the little hamlet of Charlton nine miles south of Bath and east of Wells.
The Guest house itself has developed through the centuries from a late mediaeval long cottage. The first floor was added in the mid seventeenth and various extensions and outbuildings had produced a rambling, charming farmhouse and barns by the end of the nineteenth century and little has changed since.
No longer a working farm, the B&B stands in three quarters of an acre of gardens, which include some eighty vines and a number of fruit trees. The gardens, on several levels, are a mass of bloom in Spring and the herbacious borders and roses are the glories of the summer. Facing south the scent of violets and hyacinths is held by the many walls and pervades the evenings in April and beyond.
Babington House, Wells, Glastonbury & Longleat within easy reach. Excellent local pubs.
